Ray flowers 25–40; corollas white, 4–8 mm, laminae not coiling or reflexing.

Disc flowers ca. 60; corollas yellow; 2.5–3.8 mm long.

Fruit

Achene (cypselae) subterete, 1.2–1.6 mm, 4-nerved, faces sparsely strigose; pappus of 16–25 bristles.

Involucres 3–4 mm tall × 5–11 mm wide.

Phyllaries in 2–3(–4) series, usually sparsely to moderately pubescent, sometimes glabrous, eglandular, sometimes viscid.

Leaves mostly basal; blades narrowly to broadly oblanceolate to spatulate, 1–12 cm long × 4–25 mm wide, somewhat fleshy, margins entire or denticulate to mucronulate, faces glabrate; cauline mostly bractlike.

Pappus

Pappus of 16–25 bristles, ca. 3-4 mm long.

Plant and Stem Features

Biennials or perennials to ca. 50 cm tall; rhizomatous, fibrous-rooted, caudices relatively thick and short, or elongate rhizomes, or appearing simple, sometimes producing rosulate offsets.

Stems erect, subscapose, sparsely pubescent.
